Bob Brown Scholarship

Here is a note we received from this year’s recipient of the Bob Brown Scholarship. Austin was a student at Buffalo Grove High School.

Mr. King,

I am writing you to validate the Bob Brown Scholarship. I was honored when I received the Bob Brown Scholarship this year from Crystal Lake South High School.  I am enrolled at Western Illinois University and will be attending this fall as a full time student.  My student ID # is 914945458. I have the check which is made out to Western Illinois and plan on sending that once I receive my fall tuition bill.

It was such an honor and surprise to receive this award and I really appreciate the honor.  Thank you again for choosing me as the 2013-2014 recipient, it means a lot to me. Playing sports has been a big part of my life and I will always look back at my high school days with fond memories.

Sincerely,

Austin Rogers

Special Olympics Basketball

Special Olympics will be conducting several Basketball tournaments during the late fall and winter. This is a great opportunity to give back to the game. These players are phenomenal athletes and give it their all every game.

These games will be the best experience you have ever had officiating. I will send out the specific dates as soon as I get them.

General Chairman Report

Happy holidays to all. Make sure to keep balance between on court/field and off.

Congratulations to all who earned postseason football assignments.

Please remember to give back through various opportunities.  Mentoring program is something the NOA offers. If you want to be observed or observe, make sure to notify Jerry Blum.

Special Olympics district and state tournaments are coming up starting in December.  The NOA has a great group of volunteer officials who help every year.  We can always use more.  Games will be held at Hersey, Warren and Deerfield with state tournament at Bloomington-Normal in March. Contact myself, Jerry Blum, Tom Vogan or Vince Cannon among those veterans of this great chance to be a part of sports at its purest level.

Socials are coming up. They are open to all, not just basketball members.

Bulls-Bucks NOA outing coming up. See flier elsewhere for more details. This is a family and friend outing.  All are welcome.

Craig Anderson, head of IHSA officials department, will be the keynote speaker at this year's banquet.  Questions may be submitted to me ahead of time if you do not wish to ask in front of the group.

Next board meeting is scheduled Monday, January 5. If you have any issues you wish to have discussed, email myself or Jerry Blum so it can be put on the agenda.

Remember, you get out of the association what you choose to put into it. It's up to you.
