Special Olympics Basketball

As basketball season approaches it is time to start thinking about giving back to the sport and the players.

Below is a note from Sue Foege giving the dates for Special Olympics Basketball. If you have never refereed Special Olympics you are missing out on a very special experience. Clear your calendars now and make plans to join us for this great cause. More information will be coming out soon.

I hope all is going well for you as we are headed into football and basketball season!  And before we know it, Special Olympics basketball will be here.  I wanted to get you dates for our tournaments that we have coming up.

December 8 – Holiday tournament – Hersey High School

January 19 – High School Tournament – Hersey High School

January 26 – Senior Male Team – Deerfield High School

January 26 – Senior Male Team – TBD – hopefully Jacobs High School, but NOT at Vernon Hills

I will send you out a sheet as I typically do and hopefully you can forward it on.  I want to make sure I have the other location set before I do that.  Let me know if you have any questions – we are looking forward to a great tournament – and hoping the weather cooperates with us again!

Let me know if you have any questions – and if you could also confirm that you receive this, that would be great!

Membership

From Mike Babicz, Membership Chairman

Welcome to all of our new football and basketball members.  If you have any questions regarding what the NOA can do to assist you in your officiating, please do not hesitate to contact me.

A friendly reminder.....DUES ARE PAST DUE!  The deadline established by the board was August 31.  If you have not taken care of this, please do so ASAP.  The only method of payment is via paypal and there is a link for it on the noa web site at noaofficials.org.

Also, if you have not updated your information for our secretary, please complete the membership application whether you are a new member or have been around since football and basketball were invented.  This will help us to make sure we have information for emails, etc.

A special thanks to all who helped out at the annual Bob Brown Shootout this past June.  Tentative plans are to have the event either the first or second Friday (and possibly Saturday if enough teams participate) in 2014.  This is a great opportunity to keep the memory and spirit alive of a person who had a lot to do with many of our officiating careers as well as many of the athletes who played in games which he officiated.  Please keep those weekends open if at all possible and as soon as a firm date is set by the College of Lake County I will pass it on.

Special Olympics is something close to several of our hearts of officials who are members of the NOA.  We are asked every year to donate our time to help those have a special day through district tournaments and the state finals in Bloomington-Normal.  Watch for emails explained how you can help out.  Once you have done it, you'll understand why we keep going back.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact either myself or Jerry Blum, among many others in the NOA.

Mark on your calendar Wednesday, April 30, 2014 for the annual NOA Banquet at Maravela's Banquet Hall in Fox Lake.  More information will be in future newsletters and emails.  Remember, this is part of your dues.

Have a great season or postseason, whichever is coming up for your sport.

Again....if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask.
